Renovation of a terraced house.
The kitchen, which was previously located in the basement, is moved to the ground floor. A small new garden room is added as an extension. This creates a sequence of three rooms in enfilade, shaping the living space. Next to the garden room, a narrow passage is left open – a direct route from hallway to garden, which also serves as a seating area for the garden room.
The new extension is an experimental construction: a single massive polished concrete slab serves simultaneously as foundation, heating element, staircase and finish. This allows us to drastically reduce the material footprint of the extension. The wooden roof structure rests on a slender steel portico with pergola. This pergola forms the transition between garden and room, where indoors and outdoors blend into one.
